It's finally here, the concrete has arrived! I am one happy gal now. It was noisy for a little while by well worth the wait. This is getting real now.

It was indeed a day of excitement and wonder. Watching the concrete pouring down the shoot filled my heart with hope for a brighter future, new ideas and a sense of accomplishment. Now a couple of days to dry and on to the next step!

The trees have been removed and the next step has begun. Loads of soil being taken away and loads of fill added to stabilize the land. When I grew up this property belonged to a neighbor. This soil that we are removing was hand dug from underneath his house using a pick and a shovel to create a basement. Day by day he built his backyard one wheel barrel of dirt at a time.

Ways of doing things have surely changed.

And Just like that, we have stage 2 completed!

We are forging ahead to new adventures and we are so appreciative of all our guests and local residents who understand that renovations take time. Soon all of our hard work will evolve to new beginnings that focus on inclusion for everyone.

A welcome center for our guests to visit Under the Stump. How exciting! It began with an idea in 2016 and now we are expanding in 2023. There will be some changes, a few trees will have to go, and the playhouse has been gifted to a new family.

Great friends joined in the effort to help cut the trees, clean up the debris and tactfully load the playhouse on a trailer for removal. This playhouse is destined for a forever home with two little boys who will have hours of fun ahead. A beginning to our journey in making a space that will accommodate a Welcome Centre for our visitors. We will have a design space for product development to include soaps and candles with local themes, berries and seaweed. This space will also host products of traditional beading and leather work. Our goal is to offer persons with disabilities the opportunity to have a recreational space and employment opportunities within our community.

Our work continues with grubbing the land, loads of fill and prep work for the addition. Join us as we move forward in creating a sense of arrival at Under the Stump and the unique experiences that await you. Subscribe to our blog and book your tour today.
